Resume: UX research

I am currently a Qualitative UX Researcher at WhatsApp, Meta.

My formal education was a transition from industrial engineering to computer science and later human-computer interaction. I worked in three interdisciplinary research groups, all in different countries - the social informatics group during my PhD in Italy, the digital health group at Trinity College Dublin, and - currently - the usable security and privacy group in Finland. Since my Master’s, I have also been working with digital health and software companies. For example, I helped NearForm to evaluate COVID contact-tracing apps that they developed for Ireland, Northern Ireland, and some of the US states.

I am interested in the points of view of various stakeholders including software developers, frontline healthcare professionals, digital product users, and policymakers.

    ALECS Marie Skłodowska Curie postdoctoral fellow, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, July 2019 - July 2021

    Postdoctoral fellowship at the Health Technology Design research group with LERO under supervision of Dr Gavin Doherty

    UX research, NearForm, Ireland, 2020

    UX Researcher, CBA Group Srl, Italy, 2017 - 2019

    During my PhD, I worked with "CBA Group Informatica Srl" on the Collegamenti project. My work contributed towards the creation of the app that connected family members and medical professionals caring for older adults residing in a range of aged care facilities (currently app “ParlaConNoi“). The explorative UX Research activities included focus groups, workshops, interviews, and surveys, which led to the development and evaluation (A/B testing and expert reviews) of early-stage prototypes with various stakeholders, such as medical professionals and family caregivers.

    Intern, Munich Innovation Labs GmbH, Germany, 2014

    Internship and Master thesis on a joined research project of Munich Innovation Labs GmbH and Narvis-Lab of the Ludwig-Maximilians University (LMU) hospital on arthritis detection. My part in the project included the user-centred development of a tablet application UI to support and mediate patient-doctor communication during the intervention, which included user-friendly visualization of medical data collected from the sensors (plots of sound signals).

  • PhD, Computer Science - University of Trento, Italy, 2016 - 2019

    PhD at Social Informatics research group under the supervision of prof. Maurizio Marchese and co-supervision of prof. Fabio Casati;

    Thesis title: "Technology-Mediated Information Sharing Within the Triad of Aged Care".

    During my PhD, I studied if and how technology-based mediation of information exchange can improve institutionalised care for older adults. I primarily focused on the care triad of family, care professionals, and older adults and identified the needs of family caregivers, work practices in the setting of nursing home care. I also investigated the strategies older adults adopt in sharing their health and daily routine related information, and their reasons to share or not to share, including their privacy and security concerns and preferences.

    MA, Computer Science - University of Trento, Italy, 2012 - 2015

    The study plan covered the theoretical foundation of computer science (computability, logic, and computational complexity), as well as subjects such as Advanced Networking, Spatial Databases, Embedded systems, and Business Intelligence Techniques.

    MA Thesis and Research Project: "Vibroarthography" project of Munich Innovation Group, Narvis-Lab of the Ludwig-Maximilians University (LMU) hospital, and an orthopaedic clinic in Munich. The project aimed at developing a novel technique of arthritis detection. My contribution included the development of a tablet application UI for supporting and mediating patient-doctor communication during the procedure. As a part of a diverse team of engineers, designers, and researchers, I worked on a user-friendly visualisation of medical data collected from the sensors of the arthritis detection device (plots of sound signals). I was also taking part in data collection sessions and conducted user studies with patients and medical staff as well.
